Standards Aligned System - SAS

The Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System (SAS) is a collaborative product of research and good practice that identifies six distinct elements which, if utilized together, will provide schools and districts a common framework for continuous school and district enhancement and improvement. Much research has been conducted as to what makes a great school. There are many intangible components; however, research supports the notion that great schools and school systems tend to have six common elements that ensure Student Achievement: Clear Standards, Fair Assessments, Curriculum Framework, Instruction, Materials & Resources, and Interventions.

NYLearns

Originally created at the University at Buffalo, NYLearns.org was developed in response to the profound need to assist teachers in understanding and applying a standards-based approach to teaching and learning – and in response to the need to deliver resources to teachers in ways that make the learning standards meaningful and manageable. NYLearns also owes its genesis to the need to bring focused and relevant educational resources to parents and children in an “anytime-anywhere” learning environment.

Interactive Documents from the David Karpeles Collection

Dr. David Karpeles owns the world’s largest private personal collection of historically significant documents and manuscripts. Working with Dr. Karpeles, we utilize our systems to allow access to these documents, such as the official report of the sinking of the Titanic from the Captain of the Carpathia, 1912. As you can see, our team equipped the document with an interactive tool allowing the student to interact with the document and view the document’s transcription.

This interactive book represents an example of the team exploring different ways students access information online. Rather than clicking on a link, scrolling a page, and clicking another link, this interactive book allows students to “grab” a page and turn it making the experience more reflective of a “real” book.
